A Brand New Year

I can't say that I'm sorry to see 2013 go--the last week was seriously too much. I was sooo happy to wake up this morning and not have to go play chess with a bunch of smarmy and painfully talented children. That in itself signifies the start of a nice new year to me! Even if I never want to touch another chess board in my life...Apparently though, our eldest has a talent for it that goes far beyond what I originally thought.

Things have been upside down and inside out this last couple of weeks, which is kind of to be expected. I have slipped majorly in many ways though, and I didn't expect the slide to be quite so extreme. If I'm at all bright, I'll get it together before the consequences become more extreme than the fall.

Did I mention that I got my ass handed to me by a few smarmy kids across a chess board this week? Yea...Being property really sucks sometimes--he wouldn't let me quit for life.

Seriously...

It seems only natural to begin the year with complaints. Of course, last year...

Ahh, 2013...
I have high hopes for 2014 though

please, please, please, please...
 Lofty goals, huh?

    1. Jz,
Well, I'm trying not to be greedy, but I may have my hopes just a tad higher than previously stated.
Thank you! Happy New Year to you too.

  4. You're bright, you'll get it together!

    Love the 'bonus' picture!!!

Interesting story, when I was in high school, a classmate and his brother were arguing. His brother finally had enough and stabbed him in the thigh with a fork. The tines went all the way in. Then his brother pulled it it. That ended their argument, for a few minutes. I'm sure it started right back up once the shock wore off.

Yes I realize this isn't the place for this little side note, but you brought up the whole fork stabbing thing! :)

    1. Sarah,
don't feel too bright most days.

I love it! *Pauses to muse about the punishment should one of her sons decide to stab the other with a fork*

  6. I get it, but on the other hand, there is something special about watching your child move past you in something they love to do. I hope the new year brings you some rest, and a boost back on track - cuz I know what you mean about that too. Good luck with all of it.

    1. gg,
Oh, he moved past me and the entire chess club in the span of a semester. I don't mind that he can hand me my butt across a chess board (lord knows, it's been an investment for us). He's a good winner, not smarmy, tells you where you went wrong, happy to help anybody improve their game. I'm actually quite proud of him--this is something that could have a huge and positive impact on his life.
No, I mind loosing on time to the smarmy one's...They don't listen after that lol.

Thank you! I need back on track something terrible at this point lol.
I hope that you find yourself back on track too--sometimes it's hard to get back when one has been wandering of necessity.
