Blog On...

So...I have noticed that Blogland is exploding with the recent Blogger news about pornographic images making blogs targets for being made private by Blogger.

I realize that I can probably afford to be somewhat nonchalant about this, given the general lack of explicit images that I post here, whereas others are facing the very real possibility of losing their readers after years worth of Blogging. Ultimately, I doubt this is going to end up being a huge deal for the majority of adult oriented Bloggers (won't I have a conniption if my blog is turned private come the end of March...Yea...lol).

Yes, there is quite a bit of interpretation about what constitutes pornographic material versus artistic expression. Very subjective, isn't it? I mean, their statement, "Starting March 23, 2015, you won't be able to publicly share images and videos that are sexually explicit or show graphic nudity on Blogger.
Note: We’ll still allow nudity if the content offers a substantial public benefit. For example, in artistic, educational, documentary, or scientific contexts." is horribly open to possible misinterpretation.

I noticed that lots of people are moving, and that makes me kinda sad. Because you have to find them again, and I hate Wordpress because it hates me and I can't ever seem to comment there...Though I do understand the irritation at Blogger's rather hypocritical, "We encourage self expression" bit.

I'm not terribly attached to graphic images, and I have absolutely no issue with blogs being required to be listed as adult in nature. Now, should Blogger start censoring written sexual content...I have a moral objection to that. Anyways, they don't seem to care about the written content, (for now) as long as you have your little adult access warning.

I'm rambling though. What I really wanted to say, is that Hermione posted a link to get into your Picasa photo album. For anyone who doesn't already know, Picasa is where all of the photos you have uploaded to Blogger are stored. From there, you can delete pictures that might get you in trouble, or move them to a private album if you wish to do so. It's much simpler than weeding through years worth of posts and searching for pictures.

You just need to be signed into your Blogger account. Here's the link:

  1. It's sad to me too, and it would be 'terribly' hard for me to leave! However, I don't like Blogger telling me I can't (maybe it's the inner rebel in me?), so I get why people are leaving (especially those that post a lot of pictures). I also thought that if I ever wanted to post pictures I could always post the pictures elsewhere and link it to the blog...

    1. Misty,
lol yes--being told what one can and cannot do by a platform that markets itself based on freedom of personal expression is a bit grating!

Posting pictures elsewhere and linking to them is a great idea.

  2. I'm going to stick it out, I can't be doing with the hassle of moving and like you WordPress hates me.

I have some photos on my blog and I'm ok with removing them, so it doesn't effect me personally, but I can understand the frustration for those that post a lot if pics.

    1. tori,
quite frankly, Blogger can be a painfully glitchy bitch, but I'm used to it, and Wordpress won't ever let me say anything at all, so I'm afraid to find out what would happen if I tried to actually write there!

It might sound silly, but I just moved across the country, and while D/s related posts have been slim for me lately, this blog is the only place that feels like home lately and I refuse to move it too!

This, lil you nailed it. Blogger is glitchy and annoying, often totally hating mouse, but it's our blog home. We did move the small blog mouse blathers in over to wordpress, just because few read it anyway.

No way yet are we moving The Power Exchange, that's mouse's heart right there, tied up in a million words.

Wish they would be a little more clear in their letter. Like examples of what they consider bad or tasteful/artistic. Wonder if this has to do with the blogs that get removed and come back as porn? Few blogs mouse used to follow suddenly reappeared as that.

      Hugs,
      mouse

    3. mouse,
It's kind of odd how something you can't actually physically be in can become so much a home...

And yes, it was all terribly vague! Maybe they learned their lesson and will be a bit clearer next time they decide to make sweeping policy changes...

  3. I'm considering my options too... It is a pain, though and I'll be keeping an eye out to try to keep up with yours and all my other favorite blogs to read and updating my bookmarks so that hopefully I won't lose anyone!

I know that some people already moved, but I hope that the exodus halts in light of Google's policy reversal...

  4. I also can't do WordPress, and I have no idea how to move my blog anyway. I guess I'll stick with blogger and if you want to see my pictures you can always come to Fet and friend me there. Almost all the pictures on my blog are also on Fetlife.

  6. I have nothing on my blog that you can't find in any magazine or newspaper. Now congress has passed that new law making the internet a utility - who knows what comes next. They want us all in a tight little box.

  7. It's sad for me too, to see many of the friends I have made moving on, but i cold care less where i can reach them as long as I can still reach them. I'm going to stay as well. Although i did post pictures from time to time, it wasn't critical that they were there in the first. i just wanted to titillate the reader some. I will tell you though, page views on posts with pictures are waaaay more than views without. That being said, I'm sure those "extra" page viewers where mostly people looking to find something to masturbate to. Which is fine ... people gotta masturbate, right?

    1. sub hub,
Looks like you can go back to posting as many pictures as you want (or don't)!
Now that everybody has gone through removing pictures left and right...

    2. Yeah, how about that. I'm thinking about taking requests for naughty pictures now. *smile

  8. Yeah, I'm not going anywhere, either. The pictures I have up that fall into question are pretty much ones I'm sort of laughing at anyhow...

It's a nuisance and I think it's kind of bogus. (Seriously, who's gonna masturbate over my blog? You'd be lucky to achieve mildly titillated...) I disagree with the stance, and think it smacks of Big Brother... yet they do have the right. We're all using their product -and their space- for no charge.

But that's more than I intended to say.

Really, I just wanted to note my dilemma between plain ol' removing the images, replacing them with censored notices, or having fun with it, like Photoshopping aprons and bows all over the place... ;-p

    1. Jz,
LOL! well, mildly titillating might be too much for some...
Before Google backtracked on their decision, I was going to put in a vote for censored notices covered with aprons and bows...

  9. Also, remember, if we don't like what Google has done, we can always demand our $$$ back, right?

  10. I'm not moving at this time because like the others have stated although blogger is glitchy and bitchy, I know her quirks. I also don't really have any questionable pics on my blog but even if I did, I'd probably stay. Wordpress really doesn't like me. I really think this whole thing will blow over.

    Hugs and Blessings...

  11. Hi Lil, that's the question, what does Google define as sexually explicit? I hardly post nowdays anyway but I'm not moving. WordPress hates me too.

I sincerely hope that the next time they do something like this, they make some effort to be a little clearer with their definitions!
