Good Times...

Another fun filled post here. That sentence was appropriately dripping with sarcasm, I assume?

Okay, so I know this is probably a bit stupid, but it's becoming apparent to me that some things may never change. I have an appointment with a gynecologist tomorrow. Another male. Why, you might ask, if the thought freaks me out and brings on the most minute of panic attacks, would I make such an appointment and not find a female practitioner? It's all about timing. Our insurance is up at the end of the month, and I got in with whoever could see me.

Why is it always the old white guys? I mean, I'm not saying a different race would be preferable, just wtf is my luck with the dudes older than my deceased grandparents? The last one I saw wanted to remove all my reproductive organs...I wouldn't even let him do the invasive diagnostic tests because he was so chop happy, I thought he would get carried away and start taking stuff out if he found what he was looking for. Okay, so it was a thought confirmed by his own statements.

So yea...The combination of having some dude poke around in my business, and the plethora of bad news that such appointments seem to continually deliver, is not making me want to race towards tomorrow in gleeful bounds.

Alpha used to come to these appointments with me...It always seemed to make the gynecologists exceedingly uncomfortable, but hey, they're not the one's in stirrups, so I never spent much time worrying about their comfort levels. I hate going to these appointments alone.

And the STD tests...I..Oh, meh.
I understand that people cheat and patients lie. But really, how pushy you gotta be? One of the last Dr.'s I saw wouldn't let it go until I lost my temper tongue and told him that I had the kind of relationship where, if my husband wanted to screw someone else, he would just do it in front of me, but they could do the damn tests if they really really wanted. They decided those tests might actually be unnecessary.

Good times, right?

  1. lmao.......its odd because i would find it more uncomfortable if it was a young, good looking doctor, i dont know why, but then thats never happened, and its always been woman that i have seen.

I know its said that once you have children then you become accustomed to invasive procedures etc...but honestly i dont find that, i hate it.

    1. tori,
I do have a hard time dealing with a male of any age. It seems though, that the older ones around here are much more chop happy and less open to alternative therapies.

Yea, kids did not make me accustomed to invasive procedures either!

  2. I promise it will get better. At my age it's mostly just a bore. My problem is getting my daughter to go. My daughter is gorgeous, she's twenty-one and a virgin. Don't believe me? The doctor didn't believe her either I've never seen her so pissed at not being believed. Don't know if I'll ever get her back.

    1. PK,
I know that a lot of patients lie. BUT, it sucks monkey butts to have your feet up in stirrups and be treated like a liar when you know damn well you have been totally truthful. I can understand her anger.

  3. Well I had the opposite experience. I asked for the STI tests, and she looked at me like "What the...?" and wanted me to explain why. I just said I didn't want to talk about why, I just wanted the tests. I almost always have a female doctor, and it's not actually that much better.

For my first pregnancy though I had a young good looking guy the whole time for my OBGyn and he was really nice, I never felt weird about it at all. No more weird than with a female, ok, it is always a bit uncomfortable.

    1. I asked mine for it and he didn't give it a second thought. Some doctors need to act like they have heard it all and it's second nature to have such requests from their patients.

    2. ksst,
Wanted you to explain why?! Is that even legal?
I am...Very uncomfortable with male practitioners simply because of their sex and my own issues. I have had female practitioners in the past who were absolutely terrible.

  4. My doctor is older. For his age, I'd do him nice short buff good looking greek guy. Yum! I think greek. Haha. There was a time I saw him over 11 times, between appts, pre op, op, post op, etc in 15 mos that I told him he had seen my vagina enough it was time he took me to dinner. (I'm such a smart ass) He never insisted STD tests. He did continuously check for ovarian cancer each year. My symptoms were all fucked up. I didn't decided, until after a d&c and two ablations (one unsuccessful, he couldn't open the contraption, my uterus was filled with scar tissue) to have a partial hysterectomy. Come to find out I had endometriosis too. Something he didn't discover (didn't show up on the last ablation attempt) until he did the partial. I actually think he didn't get it all like he thought and it's now on my tubes. I'm delaying seeing him. I love him dearly, but hate the thought of another surgery..

I hope your appt goes well and you get the results you want.

    1. His slut,
      LOL!

I would imagine that you wouldn't want another surgery! That stuff sucks.

The appointment did go well, thank you.

  5. It just sucks, no matter the sex or age of the doctor. I have experienced female doctors, older and younger good looking doctors and honestly aren't sure which was more uncomfortable!

Good luck with the appointment and hope you have a positive outcome.

    1. Roz,
I am always more uncomfortable with male doctors.

The outcome was as positive as could be expected, thank you.

  6. Tests - I went recently and the excuse 'things can show up after a long time', I just said go ahead. Being the NHS you don't get to see the same doc with each visit, variety means different perspectives and advise, which has its pros and cons. I don't care about the sex of the doc, age to me is more important. Old school are rough.
I'm due to be opened up again, poked about -- scar tissue, endometriosis. I think they should just insert a zipper. At least no mention of a hysterectomy.. yet.
    Good luck.

    1. DelFonte,
"Old school" Yes, that's it exactly! Sheesh, that says it so much better than "old white dudes". I think that they did the majority of their learning during a time when options were more limited and extreme, and are very set in their ways and not open to new concepts. For the most part anyways. And that is rough.

This one didn't want to remove anything!

I'm sorry you're due for a poking around of the serious kind.

  7. I would have loved to see that last doctor's face. Sorry you have had such bad experiences and I'm really not sure it's a difference between m/f or young/old. It's about bedside manner and many of them don't have it. Of course, the insurance industry today demands so much I think it's only going to get worse, not better - they don't have time to be nice.
    Good luck with this one.

lol, well, there wasn't a whole lot said after that...

The insurance industry is terrible! There was actually a sign at the office saying if you discussed pain or had any diagnosis from the doctor, that insurance wouldn't count it as a routine checkup and there would be at the least, a separate deductible. Outrageous

  8. Can't say as I envy you. I have a really great doc but I haven't always. Those are what give these things a bad name.
I really liked my past doc, really a lot. Then I found out he lost his license because of sexual assault. That left me feeling icky and wondering if I missed something durning an exam. Obviously I didn't because I never left feeling taken advantage of, but still I felt icky for days.

Good luck with this.. Breathe. Just breathe. Count. See how long it takes him. Maybe you'll be surprised that it doesn't take as long as you think.

omg, I would feel icky too!

He was actually not as bad as I thought. And he wasn't the least bit interested in removing anything! I'll call that one a win.
