Parenthood is Overrated...

A few days ago, I would have said that parenting is hell because the kids were giving me hell. Constantly. And my mother seems to think that one night a year is a reasonable reprieve.

The night before last? I would have told you that parenthood is hell because there's nothing else that can make a person worry the way that kids can.

I'm spoiled--my kids are, for the most part, ridiculously healthy. Especially the little one. He's got the immune system of a friggin dragon or something.
Which is why I was quite surprised to be woken up at midnight by him crying bloody murder because his head hurt, and had a fever of 104.
He proceeded to freak me out even more by taking a drastic trip away from coherence and deciding to start laughing nonsensically in the middle of crying.

I spent about an hour on sleep. Come the morning, I had to cancel my chiropractic appointment (something my body is quite unhappy with), and haul the little guy to urgent care.
Interestingly, in the way that kids do what they do, he actually looked alive as soon as we walked through the door. They sent us home with no clue because he had a notable lack of any other symptoms besides fever. So we hope that it quits reoccurring before Wednesday.

Yep, parenting is definitely fifty shades of hell.

  2. Oh, what a horrible night. Just wondering, did they check his ears? Ear infections can be easily missed, though you probably already know that :) Sorry, my caretaker is pretty firmly in place right now.

    1. faerie,
yes, they checked his ears and they were totally fine.
No worries! I'm surprised to see you drop by and happy for any thoughts your inner caretaker wants to offer.

I hope the weeks ahead go smoothly for you and wish you the best on your journeys.

  3. My oldest had fever induces psychosis once and it very scary. My sister was ready to rush her to emergency room...but just as soon as it happened it ended; we did end up calling the doctors office and they said it is common with high fevers. But none the less scary.

I hope he gets better soon and you are able to get some rest as well.

      It is scary isn't it.
Odd how they look and sound like death, then as soon as a Dr. appears, they seem just fine...
      Thank you.

  4. Like faerie said, be sure to check his ears, also for any type of bug bite. Just keep a careful eye for any other symptoms, oh hell, you know what to do.

(((((hugs)))). Hope you are all better soon.

almost unfortunately, they couldn't find a single other thing wrong besides the fever. Which was noticeably absent the whole time we were in the office...
      Thank you!

  5. Been there. Done that. When my oldest was 6, he came into my room talking about seeing "blue bears on skateboards". Off to the ER we went.

We still have a good chuckle about it 10 years later :)

Ooh, quite terrifying at the time I'm sure, but in retrospect...I must admit to chuckling at that one.

  6. Ugh, I know the feeling. I hope he's feeling better soon. I'm surprised the didn't do blood tests to check for infections and viruses and stuff though.

    *hugs*

Yea, my mom pitched a fit about the lack of blood tests. If it's still reoccurring tomorrow, we'll take him back in and get them then.

  7. It always seems that as soon as you get them to the Dr. they're miraculously better and then you feel like such a fool. Only kids can put us through such hell ah the joys of parenthood. I hope he feels better and you can get some rest. Nap when he does, if you can get him to nap.

  8. The joy of parenthood. Sorry about the scare. It is odd how they always feel better as soon as you get to the doctor's. Hope you get caught up on your sleep and make it to the next chiro appt. soon.

  10. Omg, i used to HATE that!! They'd be deathly ill at home and the minute we walked in the doctors office they underwent a miracle cure. And it's not that they were faking before - but they just suddenly have NO symptoms. Lol. i hadn't thought about that in a long time.

it's ridiculous right? And the Dr. looks at you like some highly paranoid parent...And the kid waits until you get home to start looking pathetic and ill again...It's quite unfair lol.

he's doing great in the daytime lol. Nights seem to be getting unpredictably better...
I have been cultivating sleep! Unfortunately, the easiest way for me to achieve that is just to haul him to bed with us so I can just reach out and touch him and am not inclined to get up and check every half hour lol.

it can be brutal! Though it would be far less so if I could find the magic manual that neither of them came with...It must be lost in Atlantis with the sub manual or something...

He's fine all day, then come night it's a bit questionable, but I think we're on the way up finally...

Of course, it's whichever direction suits them though...Our eldest had physical therapy as a baby. He was fine, just a bit kinked up.
He would play all day, demonstrate great range of motion and both physical and mental development at home.
As soon as I would set him down at the the therapists, he would lay his head to the side, drool, and stare blankly refusing to pick up toys or do anything to demonstrate that he wasn't a just a cute little vegetable with legs.
