But, I have been introduced to the sander for a little DIY project. I started Saturday (or was it Friday...?), didn't lose an eye, or any fingers. Yay!
I'm fixing up a cute little cabinet for the kitchen. Well, it wasn't cute at all when it came in, it was awfully stained and gross. It really did look like something that belonged in a dumpster. Now it's all pretty. Hours of sanding, and staining, and sealing later (okay, Alpha took pity on me with the sealer and applied the first coat).
But
it needs at least one more coat of sealer. And the coat that's on it Will. Not. Friggin. Dry. To quote Alpha, "I have never, in my entire life, seen polyurethane take that long to dry."
Have I mentioned lately how terribly impatient I am?
I have worked hard on my little project. And it's looking really nice. And I really, really, really want to put it in my kitchen. Now. But it's the forever (or never dry) DIY project. I even deep cleaned my kitchen in preparation! Sigh* This is not an instant gratification project lol.
And that my friends, is the extent of my life's excitement this week. Except that I seem to have developed a wicked case of insomnia, and I'm afraid that it's making me
First off, congrats on a successful DIY project. You should feel very proud of yourself.
ReplyDeleteI hope that coat dries quickly so you can truly enjoy the fruit from your labor.
His slut,
Deleteit. still. isn't. dry.
*huffs into her coffee in frustration.
Thank you!
Don't ask me how I know this, but...
ReplyDeleteLet It Dry.
Yes, I understand your impatience.
Nonetheless...
Let It Dry.
seriously.
you'll thank me. ;-)
Jz,
Deleteresisting the strong urge to ask how you know this...
Sigh, he said I can't touch it again until this afternoon.
Then the next coat will have to dry before I can put it in my kitchen!!!
Oh, the inhumanity of it alllll.
Don't watch it... watching things dry increases drying time. Overt your eyes and don't dab with the fingers either. Ignore at all costs.
ReplyDeleteJz LoL!
DelFonte,
DeleteI think you are quite correct about the watching--must increase humidity of something lol.
When I first glanced over this I thought it said "paper towels" and my initial thought was literally "Wow, Alpha is evil!" Glad it's just power tools...
ReplyDeleteAnon,
DeleteLOL! I don't use paper towels, but I'm inclined to put in a vote for his evilness today.
Ooo yay..yes I can cut myself w a dull knife too...congrats on the never drying project :)
ReplyDeleteOoo insomnia. 2 allergy meds and muscle relaxer that's my fix for now
Daisy,
DeleteIt really is never drying lol.
I rarely take anything, so that particular cocktail would probably lay me out for way more than one night.
I used to love refinishing things, used to do it all the time. Not so much anymore.I can imagine you are anxious to see it finished.
ReplyDeleteInsomnia - usually take a benedryl.
sunnygirl,
DeleteI think I would love it more if there wasn't so much waiting!
I'm afraid of benedryl--only taken it once, and had a very odd reaction to it.
congrats on the DIY. How about a pic of the finished project? Sounds grand!
ReplyDeleteI also do the Allergy meds- One Benedryl and I sleep 7 hours!
~faithful
faithful,
Delete"finished project", now you mock me (jk) it will neverrrrrrrrrrrr be finished!!!!
ooh you should be well pleased with yourself, i cant even put a bloody shelf up...ok i could put patience got the better of me and i gave up!
ReplyDeleteThere is a great deal of satisfaction when its done, to be able to say "i did that"
x
tori,
DeleteI knew it would be a fair amount of work, I just had no idea that it would involve this much damn waiting!
Alpha builds things. And he's quite particular, so I really never get to do projects because he can do them better/faster/whatever (am I letting the bitterness seep through?)
I really really really want it to be done lol.
Hey Lil, congrats on the project. I understand your impatience but just think how worth it it will all be once finished and in place. Think of it as delayed gratification :)
ReplyDeleteI so sympathise with the insomnia. I hope it gets better for you soon.
Hugs,
Roz
Roz,
Deleteooh, delayed gratification is my nemesis lol.
Thank you. I hope it gets better soon too.
