Sunday, December 4, 2011 Imperfection?

I think that many of us strive for perfection. And we are consistently disappointed.

The universe was created from imperfection...Really. The exquisite perfections of our world and far beyond were created by one. Little. Imperfection.

We are all flawed. None of us is perfect. And perhaps there is a real beauty in that. But we are so busy focusing on that ever elusive illusion of perfection that we cannot see it.

I believe that BDSM is the ultimate embracing of imperfection, yet many of us strive to achieve it within that context. I'm not perfect. I want to be. But I am not.

We are imperfect beings living in a universe created by imperfection.

Our flaws make us unique. And perhaps if we spent less time focusing on them, we could accept the perfection in imperfection.

  1. How about instead of "imperfection", we call it "individuality"?

    (Ha! *phythya*!)

  2. I am amazed with how much good often comes from what I consider my imperfect moments. It makes me wonder sometimes if what I think of as perfect really isn't.

  3. Who wants to be perfect! (snigger) That would make like sooooo uninteresting lol!

    Dee x

  4. Bloody predictive txt! *life* :)

  5. In my opinion, it is our imperfections that give us our individuality. How boring to be perfect all the time--we'd all be the same. I'd much rather know someone or see someone or talk to someone who is different.

Also, I'd like to point out that specifically in the area of beauty, it is the imperfection that makes one beautiful. Complete and utter symmetry in all features makes one look like artificial. But add in an imperfection...a freckle here, or a crooked nose, and all of a sudden real beauty can be achieved. Take a look at Sophia Loren's face some time...her individual features each fail to meet perfection. But add them all together and...

So, I guess all this is a long-winded way of saying, "You're right, lil! Good post!"

  6. To me, the only perfection is the death of ones self...and even that is an seem to play these games of perfection and imperfection just to test us...How many women get the different body augmentations just to achieve the perfect image of her self...and then life steps in and shows another imperfection...and they keep on and on until they reach the death of self...imperfection at its finest....

  7. Now when I skim back over this post all I see is "imperfection" lol.

Jz, Dammit, I like "individuality" better!

Serenity, I guess it's kind of along the same lines as learning from our mistakes?

Dee, well I got my share of interesting lol. And don't you love how blogger always knows exactly what word you Don't want to use?

Jake, I agree with you about physical beauty. There is also a great deal to say for personality and beauty--a crappy personality can make the most beautiful person incredibly ugly.
    And thank you.

GMD, death of ones self metaphorically speaking or physically?
I gave up on physical perfection a long time ago. Sometime around the birth of our first child lol.

  8. I don't have to say much for everyone else said what exactly I had in mind! Individuality is what makes us unique! how will the world be like if we were all the same!! YUK!

  9. I try to think "wabi sabi"...

  10. ALuv, Interesting how people seem to equate perfection with a lack of individuality. I don't want to e the same, I want to be better! Just joking...Kinda lol.

viemora, my sleep addled brain turned "wabi sabi" into "wasabi" and I was thinking, ummm? Thanks for the link. I'll have to take a break from scrounging up sweets recipes to read it.

Play nice.
