A Bit of Nothing...

August is always crazy for us. Ironically, it really should be the last month of summer quiet before soccer season begins...This will be the little one's first year playing soccer, and the kiddo's first year in chess club.
Did I mention I'm freaking out just a teensy bit that all their stuff might be on different days so I'd may have to drive to town 3-4 days a week? That's only a big deal when you live out in the middle of nowhere and your poor car is...Iffy.

Anyways...

Been doing lots of work around the house and thew garden. Trying to get ready for the little one's birthday...Did I mention that he wants pizza? Once again, not a big deal at all. Until you accept that you have to make it. I'm hoping I can find pre-made crust, because otherwise I will have to make the dough from scratch, which is soooo not how I want to spend his birthday lol.
There was also a sudden and unreasonable interest in cakes that look like chess boards, so I'm trying to figure out the easiest way to decorate one...

All in all, I really can't shouldn't complain though, Alpha has work for the month, the house is looking nice, and the boys new bedroom should be finished by winter.

Next week is the doctor's appointment that I have been waiting a month and a half for. My CT scan was clean (in that area anyways), and I've been feeling a lot better, so I'm seriously debating whether or not to cancel the appointment. Decisions, decisions...This is one of those things where I'm like, "Tell me what to do, please!" But he's all mean and won't order me around. Go figure.

I have already been on the computer for way to long this morning...I had better get off my butt and go workout before I decide not to.

Just for fun:
Aw, someone wrote something just for me!

it is a very nice creek isn't it? SOmehitng about those times when I'm thinking about my dad a lot makes me more attracted to the outdoors.

I still have the roses though! And you know how long I can stick to one background lol.

    1. I say keep the doctors appointment, you've already waited this long already and maybe it will give you peace of mind. Hope you had a good workout.

    2. Misty,
The CT gave me a lot of peace of mind, but you know how such things go--feel great going into the DR, it's the other times things act up lol.

  3. You should be able to find big balls of pizza dough at your grocery store. Hell, they even have rolls of it by the biscuits around me that is perfect for making strombolis.

As for the cake, just pick up some black, white, and brown fondant. do the sides and the edges of the top in brown, white over the top, and cut many black squares. Then decorate with a bamboo skewer to draw in designs. Fancy cakes are not terribly hard once you figure out the basics.

    1. Loki,
I am quite happy to say that I found some!

I considered the fondant, but things are judged off of flavor around here lol, and I think fondant is so gross tasting, I just couldn't do it. I think I'm going to wing it with icing--won't look great, but he's turning five, so he'll love it anyways.
For the big one's birthday though...It might be fondant.

  4. I agree with Misty....you should keep the doctors appt. It took you a long time to get the apt, what is it going to hurt if you keep it? And like she said, it might just ease your mind a little.

As for the pizza and cake.....that's why they made pizza places and cake stores!!!! LOL Sorry I can't help you there! Hope you had a good work, enjoy the party!

    1. Subrina,
Wow, I get the feeling you guys might be prone to hit me over the head and shove me into the car to make sure I got there, lol.

Omg, my son would disown me if I bought a cake. For his fourth birthday my oldest wanted my mom to make his cake, not me. She bought it. To this day he holds that against her. He's ten now.
      Utterly spoiled.

  5. we've made pizza dough from scratch for years and find it quite easy, we just use that dry blend easy yeast and self raising flour and then you don't necessarily have to bother about proving!

I'd suggest you go to the Dr's appointment anyway - tell them about your changing symptoms, it's all useful data xxx

I was lazy and found the pre-made dough lol.

Chances are I will keep the appt. Sigh*

  6. Yep another vote for keeping the appointment.

I must be terribly lazy im also another vote for buying the whole pizza and cake...well i buy the bases and the rest i do myself.

Understand what you mean about being out in the middle of nowhere, we are the same here, i try to work it so i only have to go into town a minimum of twice a week..however that plan never seems to work that way!

    1. tori,
you guys are far worse than my mom. Lol.

If we lived in town, I would have totally just ordered the pizza. But I did find the pre-made dough, so it will be really easy and quick.
As for the cake, cakes from scratch is what my reputation is built upon (well, that and being the strict mother who will pull everything back out if it's not put away properly).

Yea, the 2 1/2 hour round trip just driving gets old when you have to do it too much. Especially now that my car's really acting up.

  8. I know there is pre-made pizza dough. There is also a mix (Jiffy, maybe?) There's also Boboli (bobolink.com) I think you can find it in the bread section.
The cake should be the least of your worries. You bake fabulous cakes!

So glad the boys' room will be finished soon. Yippee!!!! So excited!!!

Oh, yeah, keep the appointment. :)

    1. Sarah,
the Boboli is what they used to have at our grocery store, but they didn't have it when I looked. Luckily, I made it to another town and they had it!

The cake is the least of my worries lol, though it's been a long time since I decorated one....The little guy won't judge me off of anything but the taste though lol, so I can't really lose (unless it's the first one I manage to ruin).

Well, "Soon" is a relative term...But it has to be before winter, because I already said they're not moving back in here (they have been sleeping in it for a month or two now lol).
I am sooo excited, we all need the space.

  9. Hey Lil,

Yep, I vote to keep the appointment too. So glad to hear you are feeling better and that the CT was clear, but it still won't hurt to go and will give you piece of mind.

Glad the house is looking good and that the boys room will be read soon! Looks like you have lots of suggestions above for the pizza and cake :)

    Hugs,

The silly thing is, I hate the appointment already, because they referred me to a man.

Oh they're room is going to be awesome. I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't a bit jealous, but I'm next in line.
